The link above is a mixture of the miniseries and the movies so I'll give some cliffnotes about his movie history:
His father is gone, presumably dead. His mother, in an attempt to keep him at home and "protect" him has convinced him and presumably his physicians that he's got a multitude of illnesses that require constant medication and vigilance. His BFFs are Richie, Bill, and Stan. They're searching for clues about Bill's missing brother when they meet Ben who's been cut up by Henry Bowers. They meet Beverly at the pharmacist where she helps them steal medical supplies so Eddie can patch Ben up. Mike joins their crew when they save him from Bowers in an epic rock fight. Eddie's run-ins with Pennywise are all medical based. He sees a disgusting leper several times, and is shown his mother being infected by it in a creepy basement full of medical shit. He ends up with a broken arm and fucks off, afraid to do anything more. But when Bev is taken he realizes everything is bullshit and rushes off to help his friends kick that clown's ass. Then they all grow up and he has an exciting career in...
Risk analysis...
Yeah... no one cares. He also marries a younger version of his mother who is JUST as neurotic. But he gets the call from Mike and... crashes his car. Great reaction, bud. He really really doesn't want to help everyone again. He wants to go home and leave everything Maine behind. But, once again, he gets sucked back into the bullshit. When searching for his token to use in the ceremony to kill Pennywise, he sees the leper in the creepy basement again. Seriously. What pharmacy has a creepy basement?! He almost kills It! ... then It vomits up black bile to the strangest song choice known in cinematic history! (ahem). So he goes back to the Inn to clean up... and gets stabbed in the face by Henry Bowers. Awesome! But he gets Henry back by pulling the knife out of his face and stabbing him in the gut... and insulting his mullet to boot. Once again swept along by drama and peer pressure, he follows everyone back to Niebolt to face It again. This time, though, he doesn't make it out alive. He and Richie have a fun run in with three creepy doors and a fucking terrifying little dog. He saves Richie's ass when Pennywise has him trapped in his deadlights and, right after making sure Richie is okay he's stabbed through the chest by one of Pennywise's claws. He dies in the cavern and everyone has to leave him behind as everything collapses around him.

Character Motivation: Fear is a big motivator. That and peer pressure... but above all, he's motivated by the need to protect and help those closest to him. The turning point for Eddie in Chapter 1 is when he finds out Beverly was taken. He finds his bravery and runs off to help his friends save her.
Personality: Eddie is a neurotic little shit. A victim of Munchhausen by Proxy, his mother had hammered into his head that he was delicate and sickly and needed many different medications to combat his myriad illnesses. He's not as bad as he was as a kid, but his list of allergies and I intolerances when he goes to the restaurant is impressive. Fun fact, though, he says he can't eat gluten and other shit... But if you pay attention he's eating the same food as everyone else, which lends credence to the thought that most of it is all in his fucking head.
To make matters worse, Eddie has married a woman who is basically a younger version of his mother. She's pestering him about driving in the rain and hydroplaning when the rain has long since dried up. He just can't catch a break...
His neuroticism made him a prime target for teasing from the bullies in town and from his friends. His best friend, Richie Tozier, in particular. It's a wonder that Richie and Eddie remain friends. The two are oil and water. As much as Richie absolutely disgusts him, Eddie really has Richie to thank for him coming out of his shell at all. He pushes Eddie to the limits of his paranoia and beyond. If it wasn't for all of his friends, Eddie wouldn't ever get out from under the firm thumb of his mother. Of course, he helps them almost as much as they help him. He and Stan take on the roles of the parents of the group. Stan with his Boy Scout sincerity and caution, and Eddie with his paranoia and first aid knowledge. It was this knowledge that helped them bond with Ben when he literally tumbled into their lives.
Of course, then he grew up and forgot about all of them. He went on to live an exceedingly boring life. That is, until Mike called him. Once he rejoins the losers and his memories start returning he reverts back to that foul mouthed little shit they all knew and loved.
Underneath the fear, worry, neurosis, and unhealthy attachment to his mother lies unwavering loyalty to his friends and a hidden bravery that even he had no idea existed. Some of that loyalty stems from the fact that he really doesn't have any other friends, but he'll literally face hell to help the friends he has. Given the chance to fight back against the bullies with the rest of the "Losers" he not only joined in, he leaped into the river, getting soaked and making himself the closest target. When it came down to it, he's the only one who came close to killing It on his own. When faced with the leper as an adult he grabbed the creature's neck and choked it. He'd have killed It if It hadn't spewed black bile all over him. When Richie was caught in the dead lights, he summoned every ounce of courage he possessed to throw a fence post into It's mouth, saving Richie.
Eddie may be a neurotic, hypochondriac little shit, but he has a heart of gold, and his love for his friends overwhelms his fear.
Canon Strength/Weaknesses: His biggest strengths are his intelligence and his friendship. His weaknesses... are many and strong. Some of the biggest ones include: any types of germs and illnesses, clowns, watching his friends die/get hurt... He's also a stickler for rules and will enforce them and criticize if they aren't being followed.
Apprentice Sorcerer Application
Class: Princess. Eddie... yeah. If the Losers Club was a D&D group he'd be the walking box of bandaids. He's the one who fixes up Ben when he gets hurt and he's the only one with enough medical knowledge in the group to be of use in that regard. He's also the one most vulnerable to attack.
Prince/Princess: It would be touch, mostly because he'd actually be trying to use his knowledge of physical injuries to heal.

First Person Sample: [The mirror opens and activates. Then turns off. Then again. Then a third time. What the hell is going on? Honestly, it's the indecision of a man who's unaccustomed to using this sort of thing. He barely even texts, for fuck's sake! Finally, it turns on and Eddie's frowning deeply at the image. He stares at it for a moment before sighing.]
Okay. I have to know something. [He pauses for a moment, mulling over his words.] Is everyone in this place completely fucking insane or just me? Because I can't tell anymore. Wait... no. That's not what I wanted to ask. Sorry. [He scrubs a hand over his face with a sigh.] I'm just, uh, a little on edge here.
[Taking a breath, he tries to smile a little]
Let me start over. Is there anyone here with any actual medical training? Because I was in the infirmary for a couple of days and... holy shit... I'm... I mean, I guess I'm fine? But I shouldn't be because I didn't see anyone disinfecting anything and did you know the number one killer of people in hospitals is fucking infections? Not the shit they went in there to have fixed. Infections! [His eyes are wide and he gestures with his hand to emphasize his point.] I know people rely on magic a whole fucking lot around here but is a sterile environment too much to fucking ask?!
